We’ve all seen her.

Spring officially begins this Friday and it’s time to pack away those heavy winter clothes and replace them with the lighter, brighter and sometimes tighter ones. It’s easy to hide extra weight during the winter because most of us are bundled up in layers of clothes. But when the spring and summer months come, it’s not so easy.

 

Hey, we all have fat on our bodies in places we’d rather not have it. But it’s the fat you can’t see that’s the reason you’ve got the fat you can see.

 

If you’ve been eating foods that are packed with artificial sweeteners, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup or agave-sweetened health foods,( like I was)there’s a good chance your liver is overloaded with excess fat, toxins and chemicals that make it impossible for your liver to do its job.

So how do you know you have NAFLD?

 

If you eat a lot of sugar and flour, if you have a little bit of belly fat, or if you crave carbs, starch, and sugar, you probably have NAFLD. If you want more concrete evidence, then you can always have a blood test done or an ultrasound.

 

If your test comes back abnormal, you’re in trouble and even if it does come back normal, you might not be out of the woods. That’s because a liver function test doesn’t always detect a fatty liver as well as an ultrasound.

 

Here’s what happens when you have a clogged liver. Fatty liver creates inflammation, which creates insulin resistance and pre-diabetes which causes your body to deposit fat not just in your liver but also all around your organs and in your belly.

 

I read an article by Dr. Mark Hyman who said “ We now have 12-year-old boys who’ve lived on soda for years needing liver transplants from fatty liver. That’s pretty scary, and we really need to think about what we’re doing to our children by feeding them these toxic substances.”
